I’m sure if you are reading this that there came a time where you asked yourself…”Do I Need A Highlight Video?”. You are not alone. Here are things to consider about highlight videos.

Highlight videos can be a deal breaker! If it doesn’t show the coach why they need to come watch you live, the video can hurt your chances. But they are an invaluable tool in cases where the coach and school are outside your immediate area.

FOOTAGE- Certain sports should feature club competition over high school. Make sure that the level in the clips are being portrayed. The worst thing would be showing a coach how well you perform and it is against a novice team, that aren’t competitive. Specific positions, might require training footage (i.e. goalkeepers).

LENGTH- The video should be no longer than 5 minutes in length, coaches just don’t have time to sit through a full game at their desk. It should showcase your skills that are required to perform at that school’s level.

EDITING- Give your video continuity. It should be appeasing to watch, not be confusing and bounce from clip to clip. It is a good idea to use arrows and circles to identify yourself in the clips.

HIRING A PROFESSIONAL- Make sure that you see a sample video and are comfortable with that quality representing you to coaches. Also, make sure they are willing to make adjustments to the video even after they present it to you. Don’t be afraid to get it perfect before sending it.
